Budget and categories

The Budget page plans one month at a time: income at the top, then each category’s planned and actual amounts. Here is what each part means and how to manage categories.

What each line shows

  1. 1

Each category shows what you planned and what you’ve actually spent, from your transactions. Click a planned amount to change it, or an actual to see the transactions behind it.

  2. 2

Recurring: the plan follows what its recurring transactions take out this month, and the line comes back every month on its own. Type your own amount to make the plan yours.

  3. 3

Auto-added: a category added because you spent in it this month with nothing planned. It stays in this month only; give it a plan to keep it in new months.

Spending outside the plan

  1. 1

Spending with no category still counts toward what was spent. Choose a category for each and it moves into the list.

  2. 2

Left out of the budget holds categories that don’t count toward any total, for spending you want to see but not budget.

Manage categories

  1. 1

Rename a category and it changes everywhere, past months included.

  2. 2

Archive one you no longer use: it’s hidden from pickers and new months, and its history stays. You can restore it.

  3. 3

Delete merges a category into another: its transactions and budget months move over, then it’s gone. This can’t be undone.
