How it works

Example: recording a receipt photo

You send a photo of a Green Market receipt. AI Budgie reads the shop, date and total and drafts an $86.42 Groceries expense dated Oct 11; you tap Record it, and it is recorded.

    Open the assistant and tap the camera button to the left of the message box.

    Take a photo of the receipt, or choose one from your photos. Lay it flat, in good light, with the total in view.

    Reading takes a few seconds. The assistant replies with the shop, date and total, and one card to confirm.

    Tap Record it. If the receipt lists several kinds of things, Split by category turns it into one transaction per category.

Details worth knowing

  • Split by category. A supermarket run with groceries and household items can become one transaction per category; Keep as one puts it back.
  • Missing dates. If no date is printed, the date is set to today and the card says so. Check it before you confirm.
  • You confirm every one. Nothing is saved until you tap Record it.
  • Monthly allowance. Each plan includes a number of scans a month, starting again on the 1st; the Pricing page lists them.

What happens to the photo

The photo is sent to an AI service to be read and isn’t kept: only the transaction you confirm is saved. See Your privacy and your data.

When there’s no receipt

For a tap-to-pay coffee or an online order, type it in one sentence instead. Months of history can come in from your bank’s CSV export.

Questions

Do I need a separate app to scan receipts?

No. AI Budgie runs in your phone’s browser; the camera button is in the assistant. On an iPhone you can add it to your home screen to open it like an app.

Is the receipt image stored?

No. The photo is sent to an AI service to be read and isn’t kept: only the transaction you confirm is saved.

What if the receipt has no date?

The date is set to today and the card says so. Check it before you confirm.

Can one receipt become several transactions?

Yes. If it lists several kinds of things, Split by category turns it into one transaction per category.
